The science

How Grey Matter is built

Grey Matter is not a random pile of trendy ingredients. Every choice follows a few simple principles about what the brain can actually use. Here is the thinking behind the formula.

01

Active forms over cheap forms

Vitamins come in more than one form. Grey Matter uses P5P, the active coenzyme form of B6 that the body uses directly. The cheaper pyridoxine in most products has to be converted in the gut before it does anything. Small choices like this decide whether an ingredient is doing work or just filling the label.

02

The wild plant environment

Grape seed and pine bark are almost pure oligomeric proanthocyanidins, antioxidants that reach the brain. Ginkgo, bacopa and siberian ginseng add a spread of polyphenols and terpenes. The aim is to rebuild the neurochemical environment of a diet rich in wild fruit, which very few people have access to now.

03

Precursors, not finished chemicals

The brain makes its own neurotransmitters from amino acids, so Grey Matter supplies the precursors. NALT is a soluble form of tyrosine, the starting point for dopamine and norepinephrine. 5-HTP is the step before serotonin. Picamilon pairs GABA with niacin so it can reach the brain, where GABA on its own cannot. Supplying raw materials is gentler than forcing a finished chemical past a barrier built to keep it out.

04

The right isomer, stabilized

Alpha lipoic acid exists in two mirror image forms. Living tissue only uses the R form; the S form is largely inert and can work against it. Most supplements use a cheap mix of both. Grey Matter uses stabilized Na-R-ALA, the form the body recognizes, held in a state that does not degrade on the shelf.

05

Restraint with the strong stuff

Acetyl L-carnitine and sulbutiamine support the energy metabolism of neurons, and a measured base from the racetam family rounds out the formula. These are dosed for steady daily use. Potent actives with a narrow safe range are kept low or left out, because feeling something is not the same as doing something good.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Grey Matter is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. This page describes a formula in development. Ingredients and doses may change, and some are under review for sale in the United States. Talk to a doctor before starting any supplement.
